Intercultural Communication Training for Japanese students

The workshop aims to sensitise Japanese students in Germany to cultural differences in communication and thus contribute to the development of their cultural action and communication skills.

Programme

Interactive introduction to relevant cultural and communication theories with a focus on Japan and Germany, group work, presentation of the results of group work and concluding discussion in plenary. If German students are involved, mixed Japanese-German groups will be formed during the group work phase.

Designed to develop cultural communication and behavioural skills:

1. raising awareness of one's own partly unconscious (communication) behaviour and cultural differences in verbal and non-verbal communication

2. learning what cultural competence means, which factors can influence perception and to what extent our perception can influence our communication behaviour

3. learning to reflect on one's own behaviour, to develop an awareness of one's own cultural imprint and to put theory into practice in small German-Japanese groups.
